Pupil Council

St. Blane's have had a pupil council for a number of years and this has proved to be a successful means of communication between pupils, staff and management.

Each year two pupils in Primaries 2 to 7 are asked to be representatives on the Pupil Council for their class. Pupils in each class are invited to put themselves forward for selection by giving a short talk to the rest of the class. When the two pupils have been chosen the Council meets approximately twice per term (more often if necessary).  After the first meeting a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Secretary are chosen from the senior pupils. The Head Teacher, Miss Reid and the Depute Head Teacher, Mrs. McGhee also attend the meetings.

Before the meetings the Chairperson draws up an Agenda of things to be discussed. These cover a wide range of issues, such as:-

  • playground games
  • toilets
  • school dinners
  • Christmas parties
  • school sports

Issues are discussed and the relevant people are notified and action taken when appropriate. Minutes are also taken and distributed to all the members.

Pupil Council members are often asked to inform or consult their own class and feedback to the council.

They also address the whole school at Assembly on matters which they have raised and deem important.
