Citizenship

Aspects of  citizenship are integrated throughout the whole curriculum in St Blane's.  Pupils are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of curricular activiites which promote citizenship.  For example they are given decision making opportunities such as :-

* sharing aims                                       * target setting

* personal learning plans                       * formative assessment

* pupil council                                         * ECO school committee

* Health Promoting Schools Committee

Through the R.E., Education for Love, P.S.D. and Bullyproofing programmes pupils gain values and skills which enable them to have self respect, respect for others and share responsibilities for the wider community e.g. through charity fund raising events, recycling, being a litter free school.

Our multi cultural topics covered in every class, every year, help children take account of the rights of others in the world and how everyone should be treated equally.

Other Environmental Studies topics also help pupils gain knowledge and understanding of other ethical and social issues e.g. The Rainforest, Living in a Democracy, People who Help Us, World War II etc.
