In St. Blane’s Primary we have an excellent ethos which is carefully developed and nurtured and based on Gospel values and the principles and teaching of the Catholic Church.
In class lessons the Alive-O programme is followed throughout the school. The children generally have daily R.E. lessons, each of which is concluded with a Prayer Time.
We have a weekly Religious Assembly which is based on the seasons and feasts of the Church. Classes take it in turn to lead at Assembly.
List of Assemblies
The whole school attends Mass in our two parishes – St. Joseph’s and St. John Ogilvie, several times over the course of the year, on Holydays of Obligation, the beginning or end of term or on special occasions.
During Advent and Lent we develop an awareness of the season and encourage the school community, including our pupils, to develop their faith, good works and alms giving.
Extra Curricular Activities
There is a weekly Rosary at lunchtime throughout the year, where possible. The Legion of Mary come in to the lead this during May and October.
During Lent, we have Stations of the Cross weekly at lunchtime.
There is a very popular Justice & Peace Group once a week after school.
Sacramental Preparation
At appropriate times, a few months before the event, there are meetings for parents of those children who are to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation –
Chaplains
The priests of both parishes visit the school regularly and work with the school management team to plan all events – school Masses, Sacraments, Church visits, etc.
They are always happy for parents to contact them to discuss any concerns.
